Dear Worldbuilder (2021)

Hello fabulous worldbuilder,

Thank you so much for writing for me! It's nice to "meet" you. I'm ellida on AO3 and pearlsthatwereeyes on tumblr, though my tumblr is difficult to navigate because it's still mad at me about something I posted 8 years ago and I haven't figured out what yet. This journal is defunct except for AO3 exchange letters.

Worldbuilding is my catnip, and I love all of these canons, so I am pretty much guaranteed to like whatever you create for me! I've provided some prompts and some general ideas of things I like in case it's helpful, but if you have another idea, please go for it. I'm a pretty eclectic reader and some of my favorite fics are things I would never have thought to wish for.

For each canon, please feel free to use any or none of the characters from the books to explore these prompts, with the exception of characters specifically DNW'd. The ones I've requested are particular favorites of mine, but as I said above, if your muse takes you elsewhere, that's totally cool too!

General Likes: I love, love, love in-universe texts, books, myths, stories, and documents! Nothing makes a world feel as lived-in to me as knowing what the people in it are reading and thinking and believing. Similarly, intertextuality and textual criticism/commentary are fab! I also love politics and intrigue, character backstory and origin stories, epistolarity, in-universe history, in-universe religion, mythology and legend, exploration of the relationships between gods and their worshippers, women being awesome, and expansions of canon (I love learning the story behind some small canon reference or detail)!

General DNWs: Non-canonical sexual assault or incest; sexually explicit stories (I'd rather keep the focus on the worldbuilding in this exchange)

More specific prompts and ideas for each canon follow! I will be equally happy to receive works for any of them; differences in section length are purely down to how many ideas I had and are unrelated to my level of enthusiasm.

Something Dark and Holy Series - Emily A. Duncan

Fiction or In-Universe Meta
Characters: Any or No Characters, Original Characters, Any Kalyazi Saint(s), Marzenya, Alena, Onumitsa
Worldbuilding: Codex of the Divine, Kalyazi Church Ritual & Liturgy, Lives of Historical Saints, The Books of Innokentiy, Vasiliev's Book of Saints

I am completely enchanted with Kalyazi religion in this series--the little glimpses we get are so tantalizing, and I want to know more! My absolute favorite parts of the books are the little snippets from in-universe texts that open each chapter, and I would love to read more of any of those books! (Or some in-universe commentary on those books from a snarky historian, a religious leader, a saint/cleric, or any other character whose thoughts you want to show me!)

I am also very, very interested in the little glimpses we get of the saints' relationships with their particular patron god(s), and I'd love to see any of the historical saint stories from the snippets fleshed out! If you'd like more specific prompts, I'd especially love to hear the story of Svoyatova Valeriya Zolotova (her Vasiliev's Book of Saints entry reads, "A cleric of Onumitsa, she drowned in a flood sent by her goddess to wipe out the ancient city of Tokvoloshnik") or Svoyatova Viktoria Kholodova (whose entry is, "When Svoyatova Viktoria Kholodova was killed, a pomegranate tree burst forth from where her body fell"), but I will eat up anything about any saints and/or their patrons.

And finally, I am fascinated by ritual and liturgy in general, and I'd love to see what that looks like during ordinary Kalyazi worship (as opposed to Katia's ancient blood rites)!

Canon-Specific DNW: Focus on Malachiasz, Serafin, Kacper, Ostyia, or other Tranavian characters; focus on the end of Ruthless Gods

The Serpent Gates - A. K. Larkwood

Fiction or In-Universe Meta
Characters: Any or No Characters, Original Characters, Qanwa Shuthmili, Qanwa Zhiyouri, Zinandour, Any Qarsazhi God
Worldbuilding: Qarsazhi Inquisition, Qarsazhi Literature, Qarsazhi Magic School, Qarsazhi Mythology and Theology, Qarsazhi Religious Texts

I found the Qarsazhi really interesting, and I'd love to learn more about them from an insider's perspective! Give me some internal Inquisition interpersonal drama (starring Zhiyouri if you want or completely original characters) or memos or regulations! Tell me all about Qarsazhi magic school, whether that's through a general exploration, a curriculum, or a magic school story about a young Qarsazhi mage (either young!Shuthmili or an original character)! What is a Qarsazhi mage's relationship with Zinandour like?

I'm also really intrigued by the Qarsazhi religion and the little hints we get about it. Who are the other seven gods not mentioned in the text? What are Qarsazhi myths like? What is Qarsazhi religious worship like? What do their religious texts look like? Based on some of the section heading snippets, it seems like the Qarsazhi go in for epic poetry--what's that like?

Red Devil and Heroine Su (Short Film)

Fiction or In-Universe Meta
Characters: Any or No Characters, Original Characters, Red Devil, Heroine Su, Any People of Justice
Worldbuilding: Conspiracies and Intrigue, Cosmic Conflict, Heroism and Villainy, Politics

Complete film can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKvXYok-fWI

I am completely fascinated by every aspect of this world and want to know more about everything! What does it mean to be a devil or a heroine in this society, and how does someone become one? Are the Red Devil and Heroine Su on opposite sides of a cosmic conflict, or a temporal one, or both? Who are the People of Justice, what is their role, and what are the political implications of Heroine Su working with them or against them? What larger agendas are at play in this world? What are the Red Devil and Heroine Su's ultimate goals? Is one (or both) of them part of a larger conspiracy? What are the levers of power in this society?

Archivist Wasp Series - Nicole Kornher-Stace

Fiction or In-Universe Meta
Characters: Any or No Characters; Original Characters; Wasp | Isabel
Worldbuilding: Archivist Journals

I've always been curious about the archivist journals Wasp consults and keeps at the beginning of Archivist Wasp! What kinds of things has Wasp written in them? What kinds of things have past Archivists written? What does their knowledge of ghosts look like? Do the Archivists ever write personal entries or notes to future Archivists, or are they strictly business? What is it like to keep a journal for an unknown successor who will have killed you by the time they read it? Do they ever leave notes for future Archivists or annotate/comment on past Archivists' entries?

Canon-Specific DNW: Spoilers for any of the Archivist Wasp Patreon content (I haven't read it yet)
